Towards Defining a Heathen Hexology

Berks County Eight Pointed Star and the Black Sun (Schwarz sonne)

May be of interest to point out some of the striking similarities
between the Hexafuus that is found most commonly in Berks County and
the the Deutsch Black Sun, also called 'Schwarze Sonne'
The most striking similarity is the the sixteen or twelve radiating
vectors used in yellow and black in the center.
Also the indication of spin by the twelve Sowilo runes.
Deitsch hexology employees both the sixteen and the twelve always in
black yellow and white with a red center. Indication of the
the rotation is indicated in the border in a variety of ways, radiation
outward in Greenwich township is indicated by black rays of sun in
a snake like design, the more the merrier and the more the merrier if
the location of the site is in plain view of the Mountains, one in
particular, the Pinnacle, Berks County's highest and strangest point.

The so called Migration age Alemannic decorative brooches were worn
by the women around their waists and this speaks not of a death sun,
or a hate sun but rather a tribal symbol, our Tribe. It symbolizes to
me fertility, successful coupling, a fat bountiful life. Its
important that we distinquish this from the prostitution of that
symbol for perverted political purposes.
As Germanic descendants, we can bask in the warmth of our
Tribal 'schwarz sonne' The wheel had as profound effect on our ancestors as the internet/computer technology of our current era. The wheel was the vehicle which allowed the tribes to move and conquer from the Black Sea into all of Europe. Its mystical connection to the sun or "Sonnenrad'is essential to an understanding of our Indo European tribal origins. It functions as both a destroyer and a giver of life and this is dependent upon rotational values on a purely 'sigil' level.

Swastika and the cross

The swastika is just a kind of cross. Its a cross that indicates spin.
Equilateral crosses indicate a point and are static, they may remain
motionless while the rest of the cosmos moves. A swastika is abit more
sophisticated in their indication of clockwise or counterclockwise motion.
In Hexerei, Germanic witchcraft, the practice of healing is
frequently accompanied or sealed with the indication of three crosses.
The direction of the crossing indicates a giving or taking in the
intention.
We get this from Lee R. Gandee,
"In any benevolent work, the crosses are made by closing the right
hand into a fist. Using the thumb, first make a downward stroke, then
raise the hand to the right and cross the first stroke horizontally
toward the left.
The use of the left hand and a crossing from the left to right is for
malevolent purposes-useful when one is cursing a malevolent condition"
page 117 "Strange Experience"

The left handed cross is not bad and the right handed good, they are
relative to the intention.
The same is true of the swastika, the counter clockwise, the one most
commonly seen in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions is not good and the
clockwise one commonly associated with National Socialism, bad.

In the Hexology, The sun is central to fertility and abundance on the
farm as is the rain. The two are most commonly seen together on the
Berks County 8 pointed star, Gandee calls the Earthstar. In Berks
County it really is a 'sun' star. As such the crossed Sowilo runes
make the wheel turn and I use it in the very center in red. The
direction of spin maybe with or counter to the surrounding elements in
the Hexezeeche

Scalloping and Emanation in Hexology

We have been told that the scalloping around the circumference of a
hexafoos is to promote "smooth sailing in life"
This from Jacob Zook, Johnny Ott's Business partner.
What is he talking about really?
A more in depth look at the energetic flow in this matter reveals that
"smooth sailing through life" is a kenning for the emanation outward
of the hexafoos's intent.
If the scalloping is repeated outwardly, it becomes clear.
This is done as well in the Yantra, for instance:

The scalloping is in a sense like the result of throwing a stone into
a still pond, they would be the unending outward moving ripples in
this metaphor.

Rotational Aspects in Bindrunes

As a note and a part of our ongoing work here. I would like to mention
the importance of the rotational and counter rotational aspects of
creating bindrunes in the Hexology.

Generally the Bindrune is the center of a Hexezeeche and as so is
indicated by its geometrical center in the cosmos, usually a crossing
of some sort, an indication of a point, in other traditions such as
the Yantra this would be the Bindu.......

I have found that, when creating a Bindrune center it is optimized by
the addition of counter rotational spins on elements that unify to
create the center, (Bindrune)

Counter rotations work exactly in the same way as an "X" works only
with the additional energy of rotational movement. This make it a more
dynamic structure and insures its reverberation into the 'Living Universe'

The quandary has always been, do you want to reinforce a rotational
movement throughout by keeping the rotational direction in all the
elements the same?

I think that by crossing the directions in the center the question
answers itself.

Deitsch Heathen Hexology Show, a Retrospective View

Rabbits are fully capable of producing their young with totally different fathers siring individual kits. This is also true of the Pennsylvania German practice of producing Hex signs.
The Deitsch Heathen Hexology show this past winter at GERM Bookstore/Gallery is evidence of an ancient all father as the sire of this show.
Although the Deitsch kultur has been essentially xtian with elements of Folk Religion that are not in any doctrine set forth by any church or organized religion, The Hexology of the PA Germans has always been generally accepted from the advent of German European settlers to the present day as being merely decorative, or "chust for nice"
More recent Heathen influences have rediscovered their Germanic roots in these energized earthstars. Swanhilde, der Waldzaubere, Patricia Hall and myself, Hunter Yoder explored this rediscovered territory in the show of 32 Hexes.
The location for this historic show was appropriately in Philadelphia, the port of entry for the ancestors into this country and Pennsylvania of the Heathen Hexologists included in the show.
So this was not merely another 'art show' This was an extenstion of an ancient folk art tradition, tribal in nature and as such resonated with the largely Northern European derived community of Fishtown where it was shown.
Individual self expression was restricted to a stylized idiom largely of six and eight pointed stars with circles.
Swanhilde and der Waldzauberer, founders of the Rune School the Wolfbund, found something about the Hexology/Hexerei of Berks county that called to their ancestral blood. No runes were overtly visible in their work.
Patricia Hall, from Philadelphia adapted xtian fraktur and hexology replacing the monotheistic elements with bindrunes and heathen symbology. The results were astounding.......The overt heathen imagery made the simplicity of the Hexes surge with unreserved power.
As for myself, the first time I used a "Helm of Awe" in the center of a Berks County 8 pointed Hex earthstar, in 2007, I knew it was off to the races.

David E Williams, receives here a well deserved credit for his bizarre venue largely because it is unapologetically Germanic, perhaps the origin of the name, Germ. His Church of Satan sensibility is quite compatible with the reemerging heathenism.

Mr Williams has responded to my characterization of his sensibilities as such:

"Well, that's a stretch, but YOUR are writing the article not me. And I know you've always expressed these sentiments in person, so you might as well keep it in. Especially with the HEX mag readership!

I am not nor have I ever been a member of the Church of Satan, so this would be a weird inaccuracy, for sure. I know some members -- including the current High Priest -- but again, I'm not a member.

Otherwise, it's a nice encapsulation. I hope she chooses to publish it. I mean, it had to be THE Germanic Heathen art event of the year... at least so far!"

Lets see if i can get some of the other artists to contribute to this.
